Beauty Fix is a monthly beauty subscription box from DermStore, an online beauty store and offshoot of Target which specializes in upscale brands. Their monthly boxes include an assortment of beauty products, though there is an emphasis on skin care. Boxes have around 8-9 products, a mixture of full size, deluxe samples and foils/tiny samples.  One thing I appreciate about Beauty Fix is that they seldom include products made in China.

Until July 2015 Beauty Fix was my favorite subscription, as it included 2-3 expensive full size products and had box values approaching $150.  However, once they started offering the first box of the subscription at $12.50, they downgraded the boxes significantly.  The full size products included now are cheaper, smalerl and not very popular and they include many more tiny samples than before.

So now rather than keeping my subscription open, I subscribe if I think a box is worth what I’ll be paying. I think this one is worth the discounted price, but not the full size.

December’s box had a total of 9 items, 3 full size ones (but two were lip ones and none over $20), one travel size one, and the rest were smallish samples.  The total value of the box was around $112, but the total of the items I’ll use adds up to $64. This is what I got:

vbeauté Lip Spread Anti-Age Hydrating Lip Gloss in Distraction, full size: .34 fl oz., $19

This seems to be a discontinued product. I found reviews of the lip gloss from 2013, but it’s no longer listed on the vbeauté site. DermStore only has it for sale in a different color (Truth).  The color looks like a dark pink to me and I haven’t been tempted to use it. Still, I haven’t been able to swap it either.  At least it’s made in the USA.

glominerals Suede Matte Stick in Pinup, full size: 2.5 g, $16

This was another miss. The color is a basic orangy red, which doesn’t work for me.  I also haven’t been able to swap it yet Made in Germany.

Bliss Foot Patrol, full size: 2.5 oz, $18

This foot cream with salicylic acid gets very good reviews. It supposedly really help soften dry and cracked heels. I haven’t tried it yet ’cause I’m still making my way through another one.  It’s made in the US.

Harry Josh Pro Tools Mini Oval Brush, $25

This is a pretty nice cushion brush. It’s softer than my other burshes, but it still has quite a bit of pull going through my hair.  The size works well for me as it’s convenient to keep on my desk and I have a small head anyway.  All in all I like it.

IMG_1606Toppik Hair Fattener Advanced Thickening Serum, 1 oz sample, $5

I’m no a fan of hair products, so I gave this one away and promptly forgot about it. It was made in the USA.

LaLicious Weightless Hand Cream in sugar coconut, 7 ml sample, $2

Dermalogica AGE Smart Skin Perfect Primer SPF 30, 7 ml sample, $15

I used both of these as stocking stuffers, so I can’t really comment on how they were other than to say they were small.  They were both made in the USA.

skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Face Gel for Smile Lines, 1 pair, $4

I still have to try these, if only for amusement sake. Made in Korea

Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10, 3 ml, $4.5

I’m not particularly sure how much you can judge from such a small sample of serum.  It was enough for just 2 applications. It’s thicker than a regular serum and it had a nice application, but otherwise all I can say is that it’s made in France.
